Fundamental physics has been dormant and arguably stuck for over half a century (including my entire career as a physicist). Vallejo’s poetry invites us step away from the literal concepts of theory and experiment into the liminal space between knowledge and deep personal understanding. It is these kinds of explorations that may help us get “unstuck” after so many years.

These poems transform a discipline that has a reputation among many for being intimidating into one that is much more approachable—one where esoteric concepts aren’t to be afraid of but rather to be marveled at and explored. Every stanza provokes questions that interested readers can pursue through their own research or perusal of the sources that have been curated at the end of the book.

I can’t even imagine what new and developed understandings are yet to come for the field of physics, but I’ll certainly be waiting for future poems from K. D. Vallejo.
