She Has Something to Say
Poetry by Shawn Aveningo
Part One: Beyond White Picket Fences–explore as a suburban, soccer mom leaves her own backyard to tackle social issues, political views, and the side of life that is not always pretty.
Part Two: A Day in the Life–this half of the book is a bit lighter with a look at life’s humorous and poignant moments, as well as personal accounts of the author.
SHE HAS SOMETHING TO SAY
Would her words elicit such emotion if
they were not erupting from pillow-pouted lips
fashioning Frosted Moonberry? Would her phrases
attract such attention, if the fingertips holding the journal
weren’t manicured Misty Mauve? Would her stories
be as poignant, if they weren’t bellowing
from her belly now tucked-and-taut? Would you
even show the slightest interest to the rise and fall
of intonation or the insight revealing her soul,
had it not been for the rise and fall
of her hemline, revealing her polished toes in a pair
of peep-toe pumps? Well, I guess there’s just one way
to find out. Close your eyes. Listen.
She has something to say.
