A Night of Poetry & Humor with Telemachos Greanias

Dr. Telemachos Greanias is psychologist, researcher, author, and lecturer.  His work in the exploration of the human entity is effortlessly woven into his poetry.  Upon reading his book “A Naked Greek” (originally published in 1972), we are taken on a journey of the human spirit and gently nudged to look inside our universal truths and perhaps ask ourselves the difficult questions in life.

Dr. Greanias has shared his poetry and stories with audiences at universities in Chicago and Northern California as well as more intimate venues of the Greater Sacramento Area.  His articles and poetry have appeared in countless publications. His lifework is driven by “intellectual curiosity, the need to know, and wanting to serve, propelling [his] search for [him]self.”

SPECIAL FUNDRAISER SHOW FOR SACRAMENTO BALLET

Our featured performer for June is Jack Donaldson, sharing not only his poetry, but his music as well. Jack Donaldson is by profession a Registered Nurse, by heart a poet, essayist, and writer of lyrics and prose. His works are influenced by quantum physics, a lust for life, and the irony of the arrogance of man. Weaving the spoken word with guitar accompaniment he hopes to bring to the audience a pleasurable experience of cognitive contemplation and visceral harmony.

It is Mr. Donaldson’s habit to generously design limited edition books for his shows and give copies to the attendees for donations to a selected charity. For this show, The Sacramento Ballet will be the recipient of all proceeds he collects at the show.

Two dynamic and talented ladies bring their poetry to Folsom. Patricia Hickerson, whose colorful life stories are unveiled with such provocativeness, she will have everyone on the edge of their seat craving her next line and the equally mesmerizing Allegra Silberstein, whose graceful, lyrical verse and contribution to our poetic world made her the obvious choice for the first ever Poet Laureate of Davis, CA.

Cynthia Linville

We’re proud to announce that our featured poet for April 11th is Cynthia Linville. Cynthia teaches writing at California State University at Sacramento and frequently hosts and reads at poetry events both on her own and with Poetica Erotica. Her book of collected poems, The Lost Thing, is forthcoming from Cold River Press. A music aficionado with a theater background, she is usually out and about supporting the arts in Sacramento and in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Sacramento Poet Laureate, Bob Stanley

We’re proud to announce that our featured poet for March is Bob Stanley, Poet Laureate of Sacramento. Bob Stanley hosts readings at the Sacramento Poetry Center, at Sacramento public libraries, and many venues in the Capital area. His poetry has won numerous awards, including the California Focus on Writers prize in 2006. Bob edited the anthology Sometimes in the Open, and published a chapbook, Walt Whitman Orders a Cheeseburger, in 2009. He was named Sacramento Poet Laureate from 2009 to 2012. His second chapbook, Eleven Blue Strings, will be published in 2012.

The inaugural event on Wed Feb 8th will feature one of Sacramento’s favorite spoken word performers, Shawn Aveningo. Shawn was voted by Sacramento News & Review as of the BEST POETS in 2009 and has four published books, as well as being published in several anthologies both nationally and internationally.

“She is ripe fruit, tasteful and colorful in her language, leading you on her poetic trail…and towards the end, exploding in your ear with tasteful simple eloquence. “ … Gene Bloom ( Poet/Editor)
