Description
“The Poeming Pigeon: From Pandemic to Protest”
The first eleven issues of The Poeming Pigeon featured original cover illustrations by Robert R. Sanders, introducing “Homer” our pigeon mascot donning his favorite chapeaus & unique accessories to celebrate each thematic issue.
When the world came to a stop, the poets picked up their pens and Robert picked up his sketch pad. The poems informed by the devasting year that was 2020 recounted a multitude of heartbreaking stories, and the cover needed to represent the broad range of topics. Homer was transformed into a doctor on the frontlines of the pandemic in his surgical mask and cap, who after an exhaustive shift at the hospital, supported his fellow humans in the Black Lives Matter protests. The hope evident in so many of the poems helped Homer rise like a phoenix above the burnt landscapes of the fires that devastated our planet.
